After initially being hinted as a winter 2012 release and then pushed back to fall 2012 with an October 16 release date, it was just announced today that we would have to wait even longer for the much anticipated sequel to Bioshock 2. We are now looking at a February 26, 2013 release for Bioshock Infinite. Also gone are the E-3 and Gamescom presentations, not going to happen.

The news was delivered by Ken Levine himself (creative director, come on you should know that), here’s an excerpt :
When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing.
Since then, we’ve come to realize that some specific tweaks and improvements will make Infinite into something even more extraordinary. Therefore, to give our talented team the time they need, we’ve decided to move the game’s release to February 26, 2013. We wanted to let our loyal (and very patient!) fans know this as soon as possible.
And he goes on about how they had to do the same thing with the first Bioshock since everything was not perfect nearing launch. I must say that I appreciate game developers who take more time than what was planned to make sure the product instead of just releasing unfinished, buggy products (oh hai Enter the Matrix and so many other games).
But in the case of Irrational Games, it’s starting to look like recurring bad planning and that annoys me, I think at some point it’s better to hold off announcing release dates than to keep pushing them back.
