Mike Ward is of a rare breed. The kind of breed you could only get from drunken cousins mating… No but seriously, what I mean is that there aren’t a lot of comedians that perform in more than one language. We’re used to Mike Ward as a French comedian but there’s an English comedian side to him that isn’t known to everyone yet is easily found on You Tube (here you lazy fucks).
For this year’s Zoofest, which traditionally features upcoming artists virtually unknown to the big public, Mike Ward decided to offer an English, American style show. 60 minutes of material. Taking a lot from the latest show S’Expose (which translates to reveals himself) and a little from his first show, Haïssable (the opposite of lovable), all combined with a couple of new jokes.
And, quite frankly, 60 minutes wasn’t enough. Mike Ward in English is just as good as Mike Ward in French, just as fluid, just as funny and somehow, maybe a tad edgier too, if that is even possible. Mike bombarded us with what can only be described as his best material that made the half-French, half-English crowd at Les Katacombes laugh their asses off. No subpar material, no pauses and especially, nothing that even came close to a filter or self-censorship!
Oh and I’ve seen some people complain on Facebook about Mike doing an English show in Quebec. What the hell is the matter with you people? The guy’s been touring the last show for over a year, he’s doing bits left and right in French on television and at Just For Laughs so why the hell can’t he do some English comedy for a week and a half if he wants to? I tell you some Mike Ward fans are fucking retards. Wake up people, as a Mike Ward fan you are NOT supposed to be easily offended! Especially not by something like this.
Anyway, if you want to catch the show, it’s every night up to the 28th of July at Les Katacombes in Montreal at 7:30PM and it’s only 19$ (tickets here). If you enjoy Mike Ward and were intelligent enough to learn English, you need to go see this. It’s one of the cheapest good times you’ll ever get without getting VD.
It’s also one of the rare opportunities you’ll get to see Mike Ward in an intimate setting, Les Katacombes being quite a small venue with no bad seats. You can’t be seated so far from the stage that you have to ask yourself whether it’s Mike Ward doing stand-up or just a big potato dressed like him.
