We have been quite lucky recently with Rammstein, they started their North American foray 2 years ago at the Festival d’Été de Québec, then they came to Montreal in December 2010, then they came back in May 2012 and guess what? They were here on May 1st! After a drought that lasted nearly 10 years, this newfound love and desire to drain our pockets is much welcome.
Now 4 shows in 2 years can seem like a lot, but the latest one being part of the Made in Germany tour, the setlist was much different than with the previous shows when they were presenting the then new Liebe ist für alle da.
As always, Rammstein had a huge show to give, some new props, a lot of old ones and a couple new stage antics. The addition of a small scene next to the sound booth gave us quite an intro (see Sonne video below) and was also used later in the show to play Bück Dich (along with the fake sperm shooting penis thank you very much) followed by the very appropriate Mann Gegen Mann and Ohne Dich.
In the last 3 shows, Flake’s torture occured during Ich Tu Dir Weh and since this song isn’t played on this tour I wondered what would be the stage antics this time around and during which song it would occur. Yes it has occured to me that I could’ve checked online, but I wanted to keep the effect of surprise, that wrong? So yeah it happened during Mein Teil (first video below), Till, disguised as a butcher, brought a huge cauldron with Flake in it and proceeded to roast his prey with not one, but two flame throwers!
Overall the show was great, we had awesome red seats in a 2 seat only row thanks to an ice level entrance in section 122. Unobstructed view of all the flames, fire and explosions, quite close view of the smaller stage. I said 4 times in 2 years can seem like a lot? With Rammstein its still not enough.
